Lydia and TJ - Maternity session at Paper Beach

It was a quiet morning at Paper beach when I photographed Lydia and TJ! We had originally planned to do their maternity shoot at Lydia’s parent’s farm with her horses, but the downpour of rain that we had the night before meant that the farm was a big old mud pit and not really suitable for a photo shoot!

So we made our way down to Paper Beach, NORMALLY I would never photograph at a beach at 11am, as there’s just no shade and at 11am the sun is quite harsh, which can lead to really harsh shadows and the subjects to be super squinty! which isn’t a good look on anyone! If you want a photography session at the beach I recommend sticking to the hour after sunrise or before sunset, this is when the sun is least harsh and is what us photographers refer to as “golden hour” and for good reason, the sunshine is soft and wonderful and golden.

BUT for Lydia and TJ’s shoot, we were graced by this amazing fog sitting over the river which gave us that really soft light and was perfect for our shoot! Lydia and TJ were a whole bunch of fun and I don’t think I’ve laughed that much in a long time!

I got to hang out with Lydia and TJ again when their little boy was born, but I’ll save those photos for another time 😉
