The Gillman Family - Maternity Session at Paper Beach

About 6 years ago, I was just dancing with the idea of photography, I was slowly coming around to the idea that maybe this could be something I wanted to do with my life. So I asked Jamin if I could photograph her family to try it out, to see if I could do it and how I felt about it.

Needless to say I fell in love with it and have continued on! So when Jamin asked me to photograph her maternity session and newborn baby girl I was so thrilled. These guys have a really special spot in my heart, being one of the early families I ever photographed. It’s really nice that they’ve followed me and my career.

We ventured out at sunset - after Oli’s bedtime - to Paper beach to photograph their little family as it is before they welcome this little girl into the world. The wind was blowing, but the sunset was glorious and Jamin was glowing.

Jamin also asked me to photograph her birth, something I had never done before. I was hesitant initially but after chatting with Jamin some more I thought it was only fitting that she be another of my firsts!

Paper beach was so beautiful, although a bit windy and as the sun set and the light got all glowy and orange and beautiful. One of the (few) joys about heading into winter is that sunset is much much earlier in the day now, so we don’t have to wait until 8pm for that beautiful light like Jamin did.

I like to encourage families to have maternity sessions between 32-36 weeks it tends to be the sweet spot between being at prime “fatness” before you become super uncomfortable. I also love to include Dad and any other children in the shoot. Because this is about your time as a family and probably the last family photographs you will have before your family changes!

Keep an eye out because I’ll be sharing a blog post about the Gillman’s Newborn shoot in the coming weeks!

And if you’re interested in having your own family portraits or maternity and newborn session get in touch and we can discuss your plan!
