What is “Lifestyle Photography”? and why should we book a session?

I like to describe my style of photography as “lifestyle” photography, I mention it alot throughout my website and social media, but what the heck actually is this “lifestyle photography” and why should you book a lifestyle photographer for your next session.

Lifestyle photography straddles the line between a traditional posed portrait session and documentary photography. A Traditional portrait session is where the photographer crafts every single element of the image from the lighting to exactly how each family member is posed, and documentary photography is where the photographer merely documents, without having any input in the scene at all.

With my Lifestyle photography sessions I like to do a combination of more formal family portraits where everyone is looking at the camera, (I like to call these “Grandma’s portraits” because Grandparents tend to love this more traditional image), as well as some more natural “in between” moments which show your family interacting with each other and gives you a chance to show your true personalities and dynamics!

Rather than posing, I like to give my subject prompts which naturally put you into flattering positions (cause no one wants a double chin in their family portraits) and will bring out natural interactions that are genuine and emotional.

So what makes this type of photography perfect for every family?

  1. It’s the best of both worlds! I’ll capture some natural portraits of your family doing their thing and also have some traditional portraits.

  2. You can Relax! - If you’re not super confident in front of the camera, it gives you time to warm up, having fun and playing games with your loved ones. It also gives your little ones a chance to relax and get comfortable

  3. It’s more Natural - If the kids don’t want to do something, there’s no need to force it. My portrait sessions are often led by the children to make it fun for them! I adapt my shooting to their mood!

I’m really passionate about how I photograph my families, and I love capturing genuine interactions between family members.
