The Kavanagh Family - Maternity Session at Launceston’s City Park
Towards the end of July I put a call out for any families with newborns or expecting families to have their family portraits taken so I could update my display images for the All About Babies expo which was happening mid September.
Haylee and Dylan were one of the families who had their portraits taken with their son Elliot and new addition who was due to arrive Early September.
We chose the City Park for their portraits as it was a favourite of Elliotts! He didn’t really love having his photo taken and was constantly running away from me, but as you can see from the images we ended up with, that wasn’t a problem, sometimes kids just need some creative thinking to get them involved! This is also where my natural more candid style of photography really shines. If I were looking for a posed sitting, smiling at the camera image Elliott would not have been happy about it, in fact we actually tried for it and look at the results!
This isn’t the worst, but it would have been disappointing if that was the happiest Elliott looked in any of the photos. But as you can see, when we were running around and playing in the conservatory he was much happier and we got some much more natural candid HAPPY images which are more what Haylee and Dylan were looking for!
The candid images also really helped Haylee, who is blind in one eye, not have her eye as the centre of attention. It’s still her, so I was never going to photoshop it to match her other eye or anything like that, but it also doesn’t feel like we’re purposly trying to hide her eye either.
As with all little ones, I find their attention spans are quite short, and spending an hour constantly being told what to do (especially when there are so many things they’d RATHER be doing) can be taxing, So I made sure to get some photos of Haylee and Dylan while Elliott had some time sitting in the grass with a yoghurt pouch which made everyone happy!
